SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

THE GREAT INTELLECT SPEAKS AGAIN – FROM FOX:   Vice President Kamala Harris says the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict shows the country has "a lot more to do" to make the criminal justice system "equitable."  "The verdict really speaks for itself," the vice president said while traveling in Columbus, Ohio, on Friday following the verdict. Harris, a lawyer and former attorney general of California, said she had questions about the verdict. "As many of you know, I’ve spent the majority of my career working to make the criminal justice system more equitable, and clearly there’s a lot more to do," she said.  A jury found Rittenhouse not guilty on all counts Friday after he had been charged in the shooting deaths of two men and the wounding of another during a riot sparked by the Jacob Blake police shooting in Kenosha last year.  Once again, we are swept away by the depths of the vice president's observations.  I will read them over and over.  Please do the same.  Tell me if you feel elevated, the way I did.  (Choke).

RITTENHOUSE – OVERNIGHT:  Kyle Rittenhouse has been found not guilty on all charges lodged against him.   I believe that most thoughtful and mature people watching his trial would have to consider the verdict just.  It was a clear case of self defense.  The left, of course, disagrees, as it doesn't believe in self defense, or the Constitution, for that matter.  From Breitbart:

Protesters took to the streets of Brooklyn, Chicago, Oakland, and other cities following the not guilty verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial.

After the verdict, hundreds of people took to the streets of Brooklyn, New York, to voice their frustration with the jury’s verdict.

The crowd gathered at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and reportedly chanted, “Say his name, George Floyd.”

Progressive activists have tried incessantly to make the Rittenhouse trial about race, even though Rittenhouse and the three men he shot were all white.

In Chicago, dozens of protesters went to Federal Plaza to protest the verdict. They were reportedly carrying signs reading, “Kyle Will Kill Again,” “Workers United to Smash Fascism,” and “Reject Racist Vigilante Terror.”

The Chicago protesters blocked traffic on busy streets during rush hour to show their discontent with the trial’s outcome.

Protesters reportedly looted a Neiman Marcus luxury store and multiple other stores as the protests were happening.

One Twitter user shared a flyer for a protest in Minneapolis and told his followers to “let people go wild,” and “leave your phone at home.”

At Powerline, John Hinderaker said this:

Rittenhouse took the law into his own hands? No, the law provides a right of self-defense. It was the rioters who attacked Rittenhouse who took the law into their own hands. And did Rittenhouse “walk free from any accountability”? Not at all. He was prosecuted and held to account before a jury, which, based on the evidence, acquitted him...For all the Democrats’ talk about the rule of law, they only respect legal processes that turn out their way. Just ask Stacey Abrams. Democrats will use the Rittenhouse verdict to continue fanning the flames of race hatred for a long time to come–weirdly, since Rittenhouse and those whom he shot were all white. But if you are a liberal, race is everywhere, even where it is invisible to a normal observer.

COMMENT:  One analyst noticed a dramatic lack of enthusiasm on the part of the crowds that gathered to protest the verdict.  I think he was right.  They seemed more like the usual suspects, the professional protesters, rather than people who actually knew, or felt, anything about the case.  You wanna be in the club, you gotta protest.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

BAD NEWS FOR BIDEN KEEPS COMING – FROM BREITBART:  Joe Biden’s job approval rating has sunk to 36 percent in the latest poll from left-wing Quinnipiac, and the Republican party is up eight points on the generic congressional ballot.  Keep in mind that Quinnipiac is an infamously left-wing pollster. So anything Quinnipiac can do to juice a poll in favor of Democrats, Quinnipiac will do. And still, this poll is ALL bad news for Democrats.  In an open-ended question, allowing for any answer, Americans were asked what they thought was the most important problem facing the country today. Americans’ most frequent responses are…  • Division/Polarization: 11 percent;  • The economy: 10 percent;  • Immigration/Border security: 8 percent;  • Inflation/High cost of living: 8 percent.  Americans were asked which party would do the best job handling the problem they mentioned: a plurality (46 percent) say the Republican party, 35 percent say the Democratic party, and 18 percent did not offer an opinion.  The Republican party is up by double digits, by 11 points on the most important issues to voters.  On the generic congressional ballot, the GOP is up eight among all adults (46-38 percent) and up five (46-41 percent) among registered voters.  I don’t think we’ve ever seen numbers like that in favor of the GOP.  Great.  But let me again be the party pooper.  Those are today's numbers, but the midterm elections are a year away.  Now the Republicans must run as if they're 20 points behind.  No overconfidence.  No smugness.  Ready for combat every day.  We'll celebrate after the numbers actually come in.

ANOTHER DEM DISASTER – OVERNIGHT:  Republicans have overtaken Democrats in registered voters in the critical state of Florida.  The implications of this, both in next year's midterms and in the 2024 presidential election, are enormous.  From Bloomberg:

Florida now has more registered Republicans than Democrats, undoing the Democratic party’s decades-old advantage in the nation’s largest swing state.

Registered Republicans total around 5.1 million active voters as of the end of October, edging Democrats by around 4,000, according to the latest figures published by the Florida Division of Elections.

Florida has long attracted conservative-leaning retirees, though many hail from Democratic bastions such as New York. The southern state also was a migration destination during the pandemic for younger, working-age people seeking to avoid Covid-19 restrictions and register children at in-person schools, but it’s less clear how significant their numbers are.

The shifts are driven to a significant degree by the purging of voter rolls that typically takes place after an election year -- removing the deceased and those who have moved, as well as those who have failed to vote in two general elections and were unresponsive to state correspondence.

Election margins are typically very close in Florida, but the Sunshine State has consistently elected Republicans as governor since the early 1990s. Democrats have also lost Florida in two straight presidential elections, with the margin worsening in 2020.

COMMENT:  The statistical change also puts the focus on Florida's Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, a probable presidential contender for 2024 should Trump decide not to run.  If Republicans can nail down Florida early, it will give them a fast advantage in running their 2024 national campaign.

Also, Republicans, buoyed by success in Florida, are no longer automatically conceding California to the Dems.  Although winning the largest state in the presidential contest is still a long shot, there are areas of California that are moving rightward, in response to the state's horrible Democratic leadership and degraded living conditions.  California is also suffering an exodus of voters, who often prefer red states because of lower taxes and better conditions.  If California gets wobbly for the Dems, it would be a political earthquake. Caused by global warming, of course.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
